ALANYA RED TOWER

The Red Tower, a unique example of 13th-century medieval Mediterranean defense structures, was built by Sultan Alaaddin Keykubat of the Seljuk Empire to protect the harbor, shipyard, and Alanya Castle from attacks coming from the sea. The tower was constructed by the master architect Ebu Ali Reha el Kettani from Aleppo. On the north exterior wall, there is an inscription dedicated to "gratitude to Allah" and, 10 meters above ground level, a four-line inscription dedicated to Alaaddin Keykubat, marking the construction date as April 1226. Another inscription can be found on the southern wall. The Red Tower has an octagonal plan, and despite its simple exterior appearance, the interior features a complex design. The tower consists of five floors: the ground floor, first floor, mezzanine, open floor, and open terrace.
